Joining Hands for Belonging: Embracing Diversity and Connection

We all know that belonging is listed in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and refers to the human emotional need for interpersonal relationships, affiliating, connectedness, and being part of a group. But did you know our lens colors how we view ourselves and the world?

Why is this the topic for the month? The Surgeon General Dr. Vivek H. Murthy raised the alarm recently about the fallout from the epidemic of loneliness and isolation in this new report. Idaho Partners for Good is part of the solution. We create spaces where people belong. Here’s a great example of the important work of belonging.

A few weeks ago, I got my mind blown when I supported Salome Mwangi (see a similar presentation she gave at WICON22) as she taught the cast and crew of a world-renowned theater company about what it means to create a culture of belonging. Salome is a master at her craft, and by the end of the training, the participants were left highly engaged, and no one felt guilted, shamed, or ‘less than,” which has been an inadvertent outcome of many DE+I Trainings.

Salome is a part of the Impact Team, a group of 20+ business consultants that work in leadership development, strategy, and systems and operations. If your organization and company would like assistance finding innovative and tested solutions to accelerate your success and growth, book a Discovery Call by emailing JohannaO@IdahoPartners4Good.org

We all need to belong, and when we find that place, we invest deeply. We want you to belong here, where you can fully engage your time, talent, and treasure for the greater good of our community. There are lots of places to play, including:

  • Support our work with the Transformation Leadership Cohort! This is a group of systems leaders who have committed themselves to personal and professional growth using a collective wisdom approach. Want to support them as they go from their current condition to a new, more effective organization?

  • Join a team. We have room for you and your talents to shine on our Communications, Fund Development, Evaluation, and Partner Experience teams.

  • Love doing something and want to teach others? Then, host an event and give us the dates so we can learn from you or join you.

Let’s actively combat this epidemic in the best way possible…getting involved in something that makes a difference for you and others.
